ABOUT JESSICA GERAERTS

ABOUT ME

My name is Jessica Geraerts and I live in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

My love for the Lhasa Apso started at a very young age.

We lived next door to Lhasa Apso kennel v.d. Pacific Paradise, owned by the Saasen family. Instead of playing outside with the other children, I was always helping there grooming and taking care of the dogs. Every weekend we went to dog shows and I was always really excited about that.

In those days the v.d. Pacific Paradise kennel also bred and showed with Shih Tzu. I liked them a lot, so my first dog was a Shih Tzu named Chico, and very soon after Chico arrived, Shih Tzu Joey arrived. Both were very sweet dogs, but not good enough for the show ring.

After Chico and Joey passed away, I got my first Lhasa Apso. His name was Micky v.d. Pacific Paradise (Frisco). He was kind to me, but very dominant to other people. It was quite a change from Shih Tzu to the Lhasa Apso. I thought: “If I can get him in good coat, then I can show him”.

But then I got very sad news. Ans Saasen had passed away. At the show we were a team and that fell apart. Nothing was the same anymore and we only went to a few more shows, and then the time came that it all came to an end…

I didn’t give up and thought that when I would have my driving license, then I could go back to the shows with my own dogs. So when Bianca Saasen was breeding her last litter, I picked a puppy male from this litter (Dusky v.d. Pacific Paradise).

A few years later I bought Faye from Mi-amor in Belgium. My goal was to have nice Lhasa Apsos and to have ocasionally a litter. Dusky and Faye were shown successfully to their titles.

After talking with to and in agreement with Bianca, we decided that I would continue the v.d. Pacific Paradise kennel.

The first litter I bred was Faye to Prajna Cornische with Tamsuegani, an English male. This combination produced Tara v.d. Pacific Paradise. Her name is found in the pedigrees of many of my dogs. She was my first Junior World Champion, and she gained many other titles. After her retirement, Tara enjoyed a relaxed and happy life at our home, and sadly passed away recently. She will always hold a special place in my heart.

The best decision I ever made in my breeding program was breeding Tara to Close to Perfection Bartje. This combination produced Cocktail v.d. Pacific Paradise (Quinty). Quinty was shown all over Europe and gained many many titles. She is a once in a lifetime Lhasa Apso.

Later on I imported Chic Choix Panthera Corbetti from the famous Chic Choix kennel in Finland. Breeding him to Quinty resulted in my next generation. Out of this litter I kept a male and a female - Vivaldi v.d. Pacific Paradise (Bobby) and Dreamcatcher v.d. Pacific Paradise (Bella). Both are currently shown, and have gained many champion titles already. Both won the Vice Junior World Champion title in 2017. At the European Dog Show in 2019 Bella won the title European Champion and went on to Best of Breed, and Bobby won reserve. Both have also won groups and group placements at several international dog shows.

Some other dogs I bred that have had or currently have nice show careers are Brightness v.d. Pacific Paradise (Funny), Odysseus v.d. Pacific Paradise (Charley), Chunga v.d. Pacific Paradise (Mientje), Arcade v.d. Pacific Paradise (Lexie) and Spirit v.d. Pacific Paradise (Lilly). Our latest star is Unchanged Melody v.d. Pacific Paradise (Wifi). She is still a junior and already had some great wins for her age. Since the beginning of this year we also have a new breed in our house as my partner Rachel Rengers lives with me with her Chihuahuas. Rachel is the owner of Queen of Lightning Chihuahua kennel. It’s great to see that the Lhasas and the Chihuahuas are getting along so well!

kind regards,

Jessica Geraerts.
